When Angelle Marix, the New Orleans-based blogger behind Dashing Darlin, set out to update her open concept living area earlier this year, she had a clear vision in mind. Her light-filled, bohemian-style home already had a strong foundation — textured accent pieces, some perfectly-aged furniture and lots of greenery — but she wanted to take the space to the next level. The winning solutions? Adding a slew of new accent pieces to her boho living room decor and covering the entryway, living space and dining area in a warm white paint color.
Although the wall color, formerly a pale greige, worked in the space, Whipped helps brighten the three rooms significantly, taking full advantage of the enviable natural light. The paint color also pairs well with the new rattan accents, fluffy pampas grass and layered rugs Angelle added throughout the space. Wondering how to recreate a similar look at home? Tell us about your home:
We have been in this home for 20 years. It’s cozy and filled with lots of textures, plants and neutrals. When decorating, I wanted our home to reflect my bohemian style and be filled with lots of greenery. I also wanted it to be bright white, yet still have an inviting vibe.
How did your decor aesthetic influence your decorating process?
I consider my decor aesthetic to be modern bohemian. When we decided to update this space, I knew that I wanted to add more texture to the entry and living room area. I bought some rattan plant holders, some pampas grass, throw pillows and new rugs to layer. Just those few items — plus a fresh coat of paint — help bring it all together.
How do you feel about the finished space? Do you think Whipped help bring the space to life?
I love how the space turned out; it’s very warm and cozy. Everything just flows so well! The new wall color, Whipped, was the final piece to complete the makeover. I love how it makes my boho living room decor, like the wood and rattan furniture, pop.
What are your favorite things about this space?
My favorite decor piece has to be the new plant shelving above our windows — it’s perfect. The art collage wall (created with digital prints and affordable frames) is another favorite.
