The remarkability of our products also comes from what you can’t see.
Paint with peace of mind
We started this company with your well-being in mind, so coming up with a better paint formula was always our priority — never an afterthought. All of our paints are Zero VOC and GREENGUARD Gold certified, which ensures they meet the most stringent standards for low chemical emissions, release fewer pollutants, and supports healthier indoor air environments. GREENGUARD Gold is the highest tier of GREENGUARD certification available and includes additional health-based criteria to ensure that products are acceptable for use in sensitive environments like schools and healthcare facilities. To become GREENGUARD Gold certified, paint formulas undergo rigorous emissions testing for more than 360 VOCs and hazardous chemicals. This testing is performed by UL Environment, a global independent safety science company with more than a century of expertise.
Thoughtful choices, true transparency
There are so many factors that go into creating a better paint formula, and we’ve taken great care to think through every one of them. We’re proud to say that our paint is formulated without any toxic air contaminants (TACs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), or any chemicals on the EPA chemicals of concern list. We value transparency and even though it’s not required, we include ingredient disclosures on all of our labels.
More ways we’re committed to minimizing our environmental impact
- Our factory maximizes energy efficiencies and maintains best practices to eliminate contamination and reduce waste at every stage of operation. Water conservation systems are in place to treat and recycle large volumes of contaminated wastewater for reuse in the manufacturing process.
- Our paint containers are made from recycled high-density polyethylene resin, our recycled metal paint tray is made from 50% post-consumer material, and our plastic mini paint tray and liners are made from recycled PET plastic.
- Our corrugated shipping and packaging materials are made from 100% recycled paperboard with 90% post-consumer content.
- Our paint is compliant with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) regulations for green building as set forth by the US Green Building Council.
What are VOCs anyway?
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases that can pollute the air in your home and the environment, and pose health risks. They are commonly present in a wide array of household products, including typical paints made with carbon-based solvents. *Zero VOC means no carbon-based solvents (volatile organic compounds) have been intentionally added. For information on VOCs along with more important paint health and safety information, see our Safety page.
