Shade is Clare's darkest greige, a deep, warm brownish-gray that reads like the color of shadows falling across sunlit stone. The warm undertone gives it a rich, earthy quality. Not the cool gray of concrete or the flat gray of slate, but the complex warm-brown-gray of weathered wood. That depth and warmth produce a color that is enveloping and calming, which is why one reviewer chose it for both a yoga room and a primary bedroom in the same home.
At an LRV of 28, Shade absorbs significant light and creates a rich, immersive result. The warmth in the undertone is what keeps it from reading heavy or cold. In natural daylight the brown quality reads clearly and the color stays earthy rather than stark. In warm or low light it deepens and reads more enveloping. Coverage holds up well at this depth, and one bedroom painted by a professional was finished in a single coat.
The warm base pairs naturally with warm whites and creamy off-whites on trim, natural wood, warm metals and earth-tone accents. Timeless or Whipped on trim keeps the palette cohesive and warm. Shade works in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, yoga and wellness spaces and any room where a deep, serene, warm brownish-gray is the goal. For something lighter in the same warm family, Greige steps back to LRV 42 with considerably more light. For a deeper, cooler gray without the warm quality, Irony goes darker in a charcoal direction.
