In a perfect world, we would all love to escape to a warm, tropical paradise. But when you can’t make a real-life getaway happen, trying a tropical color palette at home might be the next best thing. Filled with sunny hues and cool, earthy tones, tropical paint colors offer a foolproof way to make your home feel more like paradise—no matter how far from the beach you actually live.
Our founder, interior designer Nicole Gibbons, knows a thing or two about color. “Nature is the best source of color palette inspiration and when I think tropical, the beach is always top of mind,” says Nicole. “Colors that bring together elements of the sea, sky and sand and palm trees always work beautifully together and are a great way to bring a tropical color palette into your home," says Nicole.
We asked Nicole what tropical paint colors and palettes bring instant island charm in your home and here’s what she had to say.
1. Beach Sunset
I love a good sunset and was really inspired by the colors of the stunning sunset over Seven Mile Beach in Negril during a recent vacation in Jamaica! I especially love the unexpected contrast of the warm pink and golden hues of the sunset mixed with the cool colors of the ocean. Shades of coral-y pinks such as our Pink Sky and aqua tones make for the perfect complementary color pairing and give any space a tropical feel! (Colors shown: Neutral Territory, Make Waves, Golden Hour, Pink Sky).
2. Clear Skies and Cool Water
The tropics are all about clear skies and cool water so monochromatic shades of blue or blue-green hues are a great way to bring this feeling to life in your home. Shades of blue and green are the most common colors found in nature and, naturally, they work well in almost any room in your home. Blue-green hues like Views remind me of the clear, calm Caribbean Sea and would look absolutely stunning in any space—from a spa-like bathroom to a serene bedroom to a colorful living room or even an entryway. If you want to go outside of the box, try painting your ceiling in a clean light blue like Headspace to bring that feeling of airy, open skies into your home. (Colors shown: Views, Headspace, Vacay, No Filter)
3. Palm Beach Bungalows
I love the iconic mix of coral and green for a more Palm Beach or Beverly Hills Hotel type vibe. The Beverly Hills Hotel is known for its tropical decor and the mix of green banana leaf prints and plants everywhere paired with a pale pink foundation. Get the look with colors like Pop and Avocado Toast which would look fantastic in a breakfast nook, bring a punchy vibe to a home office, or create a fun contrast inside a kids room. (Colors shown: Matcha Latte, Avocado Toast, Pop).
