This Painted Ceiling Nursery Proves Color Overhead Changes Everything
A nursery wrapped in color and calm.
Painting the ceiling in a nursery is quickly becoming one of the most charming trends—and this space by @caitlinfitchdesigns shows exactly why. By using one of faves, Good Jeans, all the way up onto the ceiling and carrying it through the trim, millwork, doors and windows, this nursery feels wrapped in a soft, soothing glow. It’s calm, cocoon-like and thoughtfully layered, everything you want in a room made for bedtime snuggles, midday naps and those quiet in-between moments.
If you’ve been curious about trying a painted ceiling nursery, consider this your sign.
A New-Build Home with Old-Soul Charm
Located in Connecticut, this newly built home was designed with custom traditional details to bring character to a space that might otherwise feel too new. Home to a family of four, the goal was clear: create rooms that feel lived-in, layered and welcoming from day one. That philosophy carries beautifully into the nursery—where timeless design meets practical comfort.
The Vision: Timeless, Tranquil and Built to Grow
Rather than leaning into a theme that would feel fleeting, the goal for this nursery was longevity. The space needed to honor the sweetness of the newborn phase while transitioning seamlessly into toddlerhood and beyond.
Before

After

To achieve that, Caitlin layered the room with architectural detail: crown molding, multiple bands of decorative trim near the ceiling and additional trim above the baseboards to visually stretch the height of the walls. Between those painted elements, a neutral linen-striped wallpaper adds softness and balance.
And then comes the star of the show.
Why Good Jeans Was the Perfect Fit
To welcome their second baby boy, a blue felt right, but not just any blue. Good Jeans, our modern, denim-inspired medium blue, was love at first sight.

It’s timeless without feeling traditional, calming without feeling cold. Swatches were technically tested, but truthfully? This one was already decided.
Where was Good Jeans used?
- The ceiling
- Crown molding and upper trim
- Baseboards up to the final trim layer
- Doors and window trim
The result is a cohesive, ceiling-first design that feels intentional and elevated, proof that a painted ceiling nursery can be both bold and incredibly soothing.

How Light Plays with Color in This Nursery
The west-facing room gets a generous amount of natural light, and Good Jeans handles it beautifully. It shifts subtly throughout the day, soft and serene in the morning; rich and cozy as evening settles in.
At night, the color feels especially comforting, wrapping the room in a gentle calm that’s perfect for bedtime routines.
Layering Decor Around the Paint
Once the paint was chosen, everything else followed. Blue notes reappear throughout the room in thoughtful ways, a table lamp, a throw blanket, hints of blue and green in the rug, creating continuity without feeling matchy.

Multiple wood finishes add warmth and depth, balancing the coolness of the blue and complementing the wallpaper’s texture.
A Sentimental Favorite
One of the most meaningful moments in the nursery sits in the changing area. The dresser beneath the changing pad once belonged to Caitlin’s late grandmother. After being refinished years ago with the hope of one day using it in a child’s room, it now lives here full of history, love and new memories in the making.

It’s a reminder that the most beautiful spaces aren’t just designed; they’re deeply personal.
Why We Love a Painted Ceiling Nursery
This nursery is a perfect example of how painting the ceiling can transform a room from simple to special. By extending color upward, the space feels intentional, enveloping and quietly magical.
If you’re considering a painted ceiling nursery, take this as proof: a little color overhead can go a long way in creating a calm, cozy space that grows right along with your little one.
