Vintage Meets Coastal in This Parent-Friendly Nursery Makeover
Sweet, serene and designed with intention.

When a young family in Rockport, Texas asked Studio Cecile to design a nursery for their soon-to-arrive baby girl, their vision was clear: they wanted a space that felt as beautiful and relaxing for parents as it would be for baby. Cecile Gottlich, Principal Designer and Owner of the Austin-based interior design firm, took on the challenge with her signature blend of thoughtful color, vintage elements and layered textures.
Bringing Personality to a Blank Slate
The nursery started out as a blank slate: grey floors, grey walls and little to no personality. The adjacent bathroom had one saving grace—vintage floral tile in the shower—but everything else needed reimagining. At the top of the client's wish list? A queen bed, knowing that mom would spend many nights here, along with a cozy seating area and subtle nods to the nearby coast through bird art and layered textures.
A Color Drench That Changed Everything
Color became the foundation for the design transformation. A pink floral grasscloth wallpaper was chosen for the headboard wall, and the rest of the nursery was wrapped in Meet Cute—a soft, romantic pink that instantly warmed up the space.
“Before, the room felt cold and lifeless,” says Cecile. “Drenching it in Meet Cute gave it a soft glow and created this feeling of gentle comfort—it’s like a hug in paint form.”
Design That Tells a Sensory Story
Cecile describes her studio’s aesthetic as blending “textures, color, form and finishes to create sensual spaces that feel like livable art.” In this nursery, that came to life through the mix of vintage finds, thoughtful materials and layered tones. “Our client wanted something feminine, whimsical and coastal—with character. Luckily, sourcing vintage is one of our specialties.”
In the bathroom, a vibrant cabinet refresh in OMGreen brought a bold counterbalance. “The tile had charm, but the rest was stark. OMGreen was playful, fresh and gave it energy,” she notes.
Why It Works
This nursery hits that rare, sweet spot: playful yet sophisticated, colorful yet calming, vintage yet modern. The paint set the tone, and every choice afterward supported the story.
Elevated Touches, Thoughtfully Layered
From mustard yellow bedding and dusty blue velvet curtains to natural jute roman shades and a poppy green crib, each element was chosen to grow with the family. “We designed the nursery to evolve over time,” says Cecile. “It’s not just for now—it’s for what’s next.”
