This Dreamy Pink Kids’ Room Is Straight Out of a Fairytale

When Lacy Hoysradt, mom of three (with baby number four on the way!) set out to turn her daughters’ shared bedroom into something special, she had a vision: something dreamy, whimsical and wonderfully them. With plenty of vintage charm, personalized details and the perfect pink paint, Lacy transformed a dated 70s room into a magical space her girls will remember forever.
The home itself, built in 1975, came with character in spades—and a few surprises too. “We didn’t know until after moving in that the house had asbestos in the walls, ceilings and floors,” she says. “It turned into a full gut remodel, but that gave us a clean slate to make it our own.” Four years in, the family has lovingly brought their home back to life, and this sweet girls’ room might just be the heart of it all.
From Old School to Enchanting
Before the makeover, the room was more “time capsule” than storybook: think mauve carpeting, pleated curtains and yellowed walls. But it had great bones—including a stunning arched window that fills the space with warm morning light. “It’s such a large room, and I just knew it would make for an awesome shared space,” she says. “I wanted it to be a happy, safe, creative place that my kids would always remember.”
Lacy didn’t hesitate when it came to color. “Their favorite color is pink, and I didn’t even have to swatch—I just knew Meet Cute was the one.” The soft yet punchy hue set the tone for the whole room. To warm up the cooler tones in the metallic cloud wallpaper Lacy installed, she painted the ceiling and trim in the same sweet shade. “It totally transformed the space—it feels cozy and soft but still fun and full of personality.”
Dreamy Details and Vintage Finds
Of course, a room this charming didn’t stop at paint. Every wall is wrapped in that dreamy wallpaper, with hand-painted gold stars dancing across the ceiling—a special request from the kids. “It was important to me that this space be for them,” she says. “I wanted it to feel like a kids’ room, not something too grown-up.”
Vintage finds and DIY touches bring even more magic to the perfect kids’ room. A 19th-century fireplace from Round Top Antiques Fair was refinished to a creamy white and a Facebook Marketplace secretary desk got a glow-up with sweet floral hardware. Pink canopies float above the beds like something out of a fairytale, and gingham curtains tied with bows add an extra delicate touch.
A Magical Kids’ Room
She also worked in an olive-green accent color and hints of mustard yellow to balance out the pink. “I broke the room up with a 60/30/10 color combo—60% pink, 30% olive, 10% mustard,” she explains. “It gave the room dimension while still keeping it playful.” A floral rug pulls all the colors together in a cozy, pattern-rich way.
Every inch of the room is filled with intention and love. “It’s healing and tranquil yet fun and creative. Honestly, every single view of this room is my favorite,” Lacy says. And while the pink paint and gold stars may be the first things you notice, it’s the sense of joy and individuality that truly brings the space to life.
The biggest lesson she learned along the way? Don’t be afraid to have fun. “I was nervous it was going to be ‘too much,’ but now I see it was just right. If you knew my girls’ personalities, you’d get it immediately. This room feels like them—and they love spending time in here.”
And as for the painting itself? “Let’s just say I passed that job off to my husband,” she laughs. “I was six months pregnant and painting ceilings is no joke! But he loves this paint—it’s been his favorite we’ve used so far. The coverage is amazing.”
A dreamy pink haven that’s part princess, part playhouse and 100% personal—this is one kids’ room where imagination runs wild, and memories are waiting to be made.
