Before & After: A Modern, Art-Deco-Inspired Bathroom Makeover
Brit Arnesen and her husband bought their Indiana home as a foreclosure four years ago and began renovating right away. The couple upgraded the home room by room, turning the neglected ranch-style house into their family’s dream home. Brit, a self-taught interior designer, documented the process on her blog, BritDotDesign.
When she originally updated their master bathroom, they were planning to flip the house, so they kept the design really simple, opting for a clean white look with budget-friendly finishes all throughout. After deciding to stay put in their home, Brit wanted the room to better reflect their personal style so she decided to tackle renovating their master bath for the second time, transforming it into a stunning art-deco inspired space.
While most people might opt for clean white in a master bath, Brit took the polar opposite approach, and went bold with our perfect off-black paint color, Blackish. “I’ve realized that’s just not really me,” Brit says of the all-white look. “Slowly but surely, I’m adding color to almost every room in the house.” The before and after is stunning! Blackish is a daring color choice that helps make the Art Deco vibe feel decidedly modern, creating a striking contrast with the white tile. The space has such a dramatic and moody vibe!
“I chose Blackish, because it’s the perfect black. It’s not too dark or harsh and doesn’t have any noticeable undertones.” - Brit Arnesen
We always enjoy seeing the creative ways in which people use our paint and loved seeing how Brit incorporated our pale pink Wing It, into the space. Originally, she intended to use Wing It for the ceiling, and after changing her mind, she decided to paint her planter Wing It as a way to incorporate the color into the space.
“Wing It is such a perfect shade of blush!” - Brit Arensen
What impressed us most about Brit’s bathroom reno, is that she did everything herself! From ripping out the existing finishes to installing flooring, wall tile, light fixtures and, of course, painting. Naturally, we had to ask for her best DIY advice. Her answer? “Painter’s tape and a drop cloth are your best friends!”
