If we had to describe Angela Sprinkle’s design style in one word, it would be “whimsical.” The actress and lifestyle influencer has a touch of pale pink in nearly every room in her Sherman Oaks, California home, and her new art deco bedroom is no exception. “White walls scare me,” she says, laughing. “If I can paint something, I will.”

That’s exactly what she did when revamping her bedroom, opting for Dirty Martini on the walls and Wing It on the ceiling. “I love the added warmth and dimension from the painted ceiling,” she shares. “And Dirty Martini was the perfect muted wall color — I knew it was ‘the one’ before I even ordered swatches.”

Coupled with vintage-inspired moulding and a pink arched headboard, the finished space is every bit the glam, art deco fantasy she had in mind. “I absolutely love our new bedroom,” she gushes. “The first night, my husband Ben and I ate ice cream in bed and pretended we were at a boutique hotel.” Ahead, find Sprinkle’s tips for designing an art deco bedroom, including an impressive $76 Anthropologie dupe.

Save Money With DIY Designer Dupes

Sprinkle is a master at designing on a budget and actually made the headboard and light fixture herself. “The pendant light is an Anthropologie dupe — the original was $800 and I made this for $76,” she shares. But the art deco-style headboard was by far her biggest project, as well as the design feature of the room. “It took weeks to plan, measure, cut, upholster, and install the custom piece,” she explains. “I used a jigsaw for the first time ever — I had no idea what I was doing!”

Build Your Design Around One Statement Piece

The pink crane wallpaper opposite the bed actually inspired the bedroom design. “I found it on Etsy and fell in love,” she shares. “I immediately ordered paint swatches from Clare to find the perfect complementary color, and the design unfolded from there.” The custom peel-and-stick print clocked in at $115 and took just 35 minutes to hang. While it’s technically a sticker, it boasts a high-end matte finish that looks and feels like real wallpaper. “The texture was important to me — glossy peel-and-stick wallpaper can look a bit cheap.”

Add Character with Vintage-Inspired Moulding

Sprinkle’s longtime love of Brooklyn Brownstones inspired the DIY moulding throughout the space. Equipped with a nail gun and hand saw, she and Ben spent six hours cutting 60 individual pieces of wood to scale, and another three installing them. “It was very tedious,” she admits, “but it gave the room that old-world, vintage charm, and I think it cost $120.”
